Born into a world where eye color betrays magical ability, Elim ax’Tenebris, an elite Spectra, is bound to serve the militaristic Cynod, whose conscripts must always pair with one another to utilize their powers. But despite his prestige, Elim yearns for the independence and quiet solitude afforded only to commoneyes – a dream that comes miraculously within reach when he discovers Iah, a prickly recluse with the impossible ability to wield spectral power un-paired. With no desire to fall prey to the machinations of the Cynod, Iah reluctantly agrees to a temporary partnership, and together, they flee.

On the run, they become entangled with Soren Entorial, a pragmatic spymaster investigating a slew of commoneye kidnappings that seem inexplicably linked to Iah’s cryptic dreams of starved, mad prisoners, and an ancient order mired in a shattered world. Determined to confront her demons and discover the truth behind her rule-breaking magic, Iah ignores Elim’s warnings and agrees to aid Soren in his search for the missing commoneyes. But her burgeoning powers attract more than just agents of the Cynod – an unseen threat lurks patiently behind the murky veil of Iah’s past. The Wound must be repaired, and the Stranded will not be denied.
